Specialist Hip Surgeon – Bournemouth, Poole and Dorset
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon BMBS FRCS (Tr & Orth)
Mr Antony Raymond is a specialist hip surgeon who founded and leads the Young Adult and Hip Preservation service at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust, serving Bournemouth, Poole, Dorset and the New Forest.
He offers an extensive range of hip treatments, from non-surgical care and keyhole surgery to hip resurfacing and robotic hip replacement, so treatment can be tailored to your condition and circumstances.
Mr Raymond trained in hip resurfacing under Professor Piers Yates in Perth, Australia, and is one of a small number of UK surgeons who continue to implant metal resurfacings. He also offers modern ceramic resurfacing, suitable for both men and women, so he can recommend the right implant for each patient, or advise when a hip replacement is the better option.
As an experienced hip arthroscopist (keyhole surgeon), he treats conditions such as impingement and labral tears to help preserve the natural hip joint.
He has a specialist interest in soft tissue injuries around the hip and thigh, including gluteal tendon tears, a common cause of pain on the side of the hip, and hamstring and quadriceps injuries.
Fellowship-trained in the UK, USA and Australia, Mr Raymond takes a pragmatic, personalised and compassionate approach. His priority is to preserve the natural joint wherever possible, while helping patients return to the life they want, whether that means competitive sport, golf and walking, or simply living without pain.
His specialist interests are:
Robotic and traditional total hip replacement
Hip resurfacing: established metal and modern ceramic implants for active men and women
Hip arthroscopy for hip preservation
Revision hip replacement
Gluteal, hamstring and quadriceps tendon repair
Knee replacement and knee arthroscopy
Injections, including PRP, and physiotherapy referral to avoid surgery where possible
