About Mr Raymond
Mr Antony Raymond is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust, where he founded and leads the young adult hip service at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital. He has more than 15 years of orthopaedic training and practice, including three specialist fellowships in the UK and Australia. He serves the populations of Bournemouth, Poole, Dorset and the New Forest. Privately, he sees patients at the Bournemouth Nuffield Hospital and the Circle Harbour Hospital, Poole.
His practice covers the full range of hip surgery: hip arthroscopy, metal and ceramic hip resurfacing, femoral osteotomy, and traditional and robotic hip replacement. He also has a specialist interest in soft tissue injuries around the hip and thigh, including gluteal, hamstring and quadriceps tendon repair, and treats knee conditions including ligament injuries, meniscal tears and arthritis.
Whatever your goal, whether returning to competitive sport, golf or walking, or simply living without pain, his aim is to find the treatment that suits you, which for many patients does not mean an operation.
Training
Mr Raymond undertook his surgical training on the University College London Hospital Programme, gaining experience in complex hip and knee replacement at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and major trauma surgery at the Royal London Hospital. He then won an Orthopaedic Trauma Association fellowship at the Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, USA, followed by an observership in hip preservation at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.
He completed the Royal Bournemouth Hospital Hip Surgery Fellowship under Professor Rob Middleton, then the Perth Sports Surgery Fellowship with Dr Peter D'Alessandro, focusing on sports injuries, arthroscopic hip and knee surgery and multi-ligament knee reconstruction. Finally, he developed advanced skills in hip resurfacing and revision hip replacement on the Fremantle Hip and Knee Arthroplasty Fellowship in Perth, Australia, under Professor Piers Yates.
